Food information
Some food items mentioned in the recipes section may be either unknown
to you or slightly specialist. Here, we've listed some non-household items
which are listed in these menus and the book Detox Your World. There are others, such as ecstatic foods, but as we sell those, you can find
out about them on their specific product pages of this web site. If you have
any more questions about the food we mention, please email us and we will add it to this page.
Nori
Black nori sheets can be uncooked or very quickly heated, which is more natural. Green nori is toasted. It is made from
seaweed, which is ground and then pressed into squares which measure about
20 square centimeters. You can buy it at many health food shops.
As well as making Easy Sushi,
you can make satisfying nori wraps. Read more nori recipes in the books
Detox Your World, Evie's Kitchen and Shazzie's
detox delights.
Olive
Oil
This should be used sparingly, and should always be of the highest quality.
We recommend only cold/stone pressed, organic and preferably unfiltered.
Raw
carob powder
If you look for carob powder in the shops, you will see either dark or
light versions. The dark is roasted and has an intense flavour. The light
is toasted, and is still quite strong. We go back to nature and use raw
carob pods which have been powdered for you.
As well as adding it to the bases of cheezecakes, try adding it to Whip
the mister ice cream (recipe in Shazzie's detox
delights), to raw chocolates (balancing the calcium and magnesium), to all sorts of puddings and even to your own Mole
sauce.
Salt
We recommend that you switch your salt intake to an unrefined salt.
Table salt is highly refined, bleached and cooked. Your body doesn't
recognise it as a nutrient so treats it as a toxin. When detoxing, and
for all-round health, it's best to remove this white nasty from your
life.
If you take in a lot of salt, try making juices which contain celery
every day. This will give you your fill of ionic sodium, which helps
remove salt cravings.
Green superfood
We use Nature's Living Superfood
or Pure Synergy.
It is a fine green powder, made from dried herbs, greens and sea vegetables.
It has many probiotics, which means that your insides get replenished
with good bacteria. We mix it into guacamole, soups, smoothies and puddings.
In Detox Your World, the book, you can read
several more exciting recipes containing green superfood.
