Goji berries, organic, raw, vegan
IMPORTANT NOTICE : We are currently out of stock of organic goji berries. This is due to a problem with the 2007 harvest. The harvest has been contaminated with pesticides and cannot be sold as organic. The new harvest of July 2008 will probably be OK. As a result of this, there are very few organic goji berries in the world right now. We had the option of buying the contaminated berries and selling them as not organic, but that wasn't the ecstatic choice we wanted to make on your behalf. Goji berries have been growing in the UK's hedgerows for centuries. We urge you to buy goji berry plants and start to grow your own, as one plant yields about 2k of berries year. Please also feel free to spread the cheap goji berries now flooding the UK around your local hedgerows where they will grow into abundant plants. Goji berries grow really well in the UK, so there's every reason why now is the right time to sow your seeds of love.
We love gojis!!!!
Important announcements from Shazzie
Is it really organic?
"Recently, there has been an influx of inferior
superfoods into the UK. When buying superfoods on the Internet or in shops,
ensure you are buying organically certified (if it says organic, it should
be accompanied by the details of the certifying body (OF&G or Soil
Association, for example). If it doesn't say who's certified it, ask the
seller for their certificate. For your protection, it's illegal to sell
uncertified products as organic."
Price matching
"If you find certified organic superfoods of a similar
quality to ours at a cheaper price, we will attempt to price match this
item. Please ring Denise or Angel on 08700 113 119 for a price match."
With love
Organically certified goji berries are an extremely nutrient-dense fruit. They contain 18 amino acids (six times higher than bee pollen) including all 8 essential amino acids, making them an ideal protein supplement! They contain 11.7% protein, and 328 calories per 100g!
The Goji berry is a deep-red, dried fruit about the same size as a raisin. It's very sweet and tastes something like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. We love adding them to smoothies, trail-mix, cereals, teas and cakes. Err... we also just eat them by the handful!
Nutritional Information
Goji berries contain up to 21 trace minerals (the main ones being zinc, iron, copper, calcium, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus) and are an incredibly rich source of carotenoids, including beta-carotene (more beta carotene than carrots).
Goji berries also contain vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin E.
Mature fruits contain about 11 mg of iron per 100 grams, betasisterol (a hormone-like fatty acid), linoleic acid (a fatty acid), sesquiterpenoids (cyperone, solavetivone), tetraterpenoids (zeaxanthin, physalin), and betaine (0.1%). We strongly advise you to carry out your own research to determine the effects of these powerful components.
Goji berries also contain polysaccharides which are found in high levels in traditional immune tonic herbs such as echinacea, medicinal mushrooms, and astragalus.
Traditional use
Goji berries have been traditionally regarded as a longevity, strength-building, and sexual potency food of the highest order in the traditional practices of Chinese medicine.
According to our Medical Herbalist Dale Pinnock MNIMH “these berries are often given in Western Herbal Medicine as a nutritive tonic for the eyes, due to their carotenoid content. Just remember the old sayings about carrots and seeing in the dark”. He added “I also find them a great energy tonic for my patients who have lost their appetite and need some concentrated nutrition from only a small volume of food”.
Production
The plants grow like bushes with vines that reach over 15 feet. The berries are never touched by hand as they will oxidize and turn black if touched while fresh. They are shaken onto mats, and then dried in the shade. These berries are grown according to strict organic standards in one of the purest places on earth.
Dosage
The amount used is around 10-30 grams per day, though we just eat them because we love them! There is no upper limit for their consumption.
Shazzie's pregnant smoothie
This is Shazzie's most satiating
pregnancy smoothie of all. When she was pregnant, it made her and Tiny feel totally
cosmic all morning long.
Blend it all up in a jug or Vita-Prep,
and drink. It should satiate you for hours.
The goji berry baby

This is Evie, aged 2 and a little bit. She's eaten goji berries nearly every day since she started eating food (and when she was in her mummy's tummy). She's a raw organic vegan unvaxed breastfed child. She's never ever been to the doctors with an "illness". Here, she's eating raw chocolate cereal that her mummy, Shazzie, made her, which is topped with coconut milk and yummy goji berries.
What you say
"Hi, I have just been reading some more about the magic of Goji berries. I am nearly 70 and suffer very badly from arthritis. I have one replacement hip and am waiting for another... I have very severe arthritis in my feet and shoulders. I have got fibromyalgia and all the other associated aches and pains that go along with it. I have been including goji berries in my diet for the past three weeks and I have never felt better in my life. The main benefits to me are the anti-inflamitory properties but I must also mention the feeling of well being and the fact that my skin is begining to look 10 years younger. I can only atribute this to the only change in my diet...Goji Berries, plus the Manuka honey which I have been using for the past couple of years...thank you so much...(not so achy pensioner.)"
