Far infra red heat pad -- TTS Platinum
Thermotex is a convenient, portable therapy system that provides
effective pain relief wherever and whenever you need it.
Thermotex produces infrared light to provide deep penetrating warmth
for relief of acute and chronic pain, and to speed up the body's natural
healing process. Thermographic images have demonstrated the effectiveness
of Thermotex products.
Far infra red heat pad -- TTS Platinum
The ultimate in effectiveness and comfort, the Platinum has been designed
with three individual elements joined together as one unit. Its adjustable
straps enable you to fit the Platinum comfortably almost anywhere on the
body, and its flexibility allows better isolation of the affected area.
What does Infrared do?
As the infrared energy penetrates, it safely and gently heats the tissues
and blood supply within the affected area.
Your body's natural response to this increased temperature is to try
to maintain a condition of homeostasisa balanced environment or
state of equilibrium throughout the body.
To do this, your body responds with a rapid increase in blood flow to
the area. Your blood vessels actually increase in diameter, a change called
vasodilation, and allow oxygen and nutrients in the bloodstream to pass
through the walls more easily -- and to start to regenerate the damaged
cells and tissues.
In the same way, toxic substances in the damaged cells can also pass
back into the bloodstream more easily, to be filtered and eliminated by
organs such as the kidneys, lungs, and digestive tract.
As the damaged or inflamed area receives this increased supply of blood,
the cells are nourished and cleansed and you experience an actual reduction
in pain.
Comparisons with Conventional Heating Pads
Thermotex is a registered medical device with both Health Canada,
and the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).
Thermotex infrared energy has been clinically proven to penetrate
to depths of 25 - 35 mm. Heating pads, which provide topical conductive
heat, only penetrate 2 - 3 mm.
Thermotex infrared operates at temperatures of between 40°C
- 45°C, versus heating pads that are often in excess of 55°C.
Our products will not burn or dehydrate the skin.
Pain Medication Therapy
Most pain medications simply disrupt the body's pain signals to the brain,
masking the body's ability to recognize pain, rather than removing the
source or cause of that pain. The effectiveness of Thermotex in
reducing and controlling your pain will in most cases allow you to reduce
your pain medication intake. Thermotex provides effective, non-invasive,
non-addictive pain relief with no side effects.
Robert H. Miller, co-author of "Back Pain Relief -- The Ultimate
Guide" says: "An excellent infrared product is the Thermotex
heating pad, which uses infrared heat to deeply penetrate the muscles.
Thermotex is not only recommended in the book but has provided excellent
pain relief to the author."

Tests at St Boniface Medical Center
A test program was carried out at St. Boniface General Hospital to determine
the therapeutic values of a Thermotex pad when used for the relief
of the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and lower back
pain
A total of 42 patients were involved in the test. Each was treated for
no longer than 7 days (which is less than the recommended time of use
recommended by the manufacturer).
65% of the patients reported very beneficial relief within the 7 day
test period.
The small group of patients who showed no significant change or minimal
relief were asked to continue the treatment. After using the pad for less
than 3 weeks, many of the patients also received very beneficial relief.
Taking into account the extended testing period, 87% of patients experienced
significant improvement.
Contraindictions
Should any pain occur or worsen with the use of a Thermotex device,
the use of the device should be discontinued.

If you have a recent (acute) joint injury please ask your Health Care
Professional when Infrared Therapy can be initiated. If you have a joint
or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond
poorly to vigorous heating of any kind. Vigorous heating is strictly contraindicated
in cases of enclosed infections be they dental, in joints or in any other
tissues.
Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally
reflect infrared rays and thus are not heated by this system, nevertheless
you should consult your surgeon prior to using Thermotex. Certainly,
please discontinue Thermotex use if you experience pain near any
such implants.
Silicone has been found to absorb infrared energy. Implanted silicone
or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacement may be warmed by the
infrared rays. Since silicone melts at over 200ºF it should not be
adversely effected by Infrared Thermal System use. It is still advised
that you check with your health care professional. If you have diabetes
mellitus, poor circulation or any unusual skin condition, you may be more
sensitive to heat, and you should always be careful when using your Thermotex
or any other heat delivery product.
Always start with the lower heat setting and use it for shorter periods
of time, slowly building up to the recommended times. If you have any
concerns, we recommend you contract your physician before proceeding with
your Thermotex. If you are taking corticosteroids, you may experience
some redness of the skin. Should you experience redness, we recommend
that you discontinue the use of your Thermotex until you have completed
your medication. Should your redness continue, contact your Health Care
Professional.
Hemophiliacs and anyone predisposed to hemorrhage should avoid Infrared
usage or any type of heating that would induce vasodilation which can
potentiate the tendency to bleed.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Thermography is used to measure the radiation of heat. In the following
pictures you will see that the initial state of the injured area in each
case is showing colder than the surrounding tissue. This is accounted
for by the lack of blood flow in that injured area. As the injury is treated
and the pain relieved by increasing blood flow, the temperature of the
injured area returns to normal.

These thermographs show the improvement in a patient with upper back
pain after 3 half-hour treatments with a Thermotex Platinum pad over a
4 day period.

These thermographs show the improvement in a patient with a knee problem
after 3 half-hour treatments using a Thermotex Platinum pad over a period
of 7 days.
