The camu camu berry grows in the lowlands of Amazon, where the Peruvian tribes handpick them and make it into a powder, for the purpose of longer shelf life.
The process to make it into a powder involves the stage of freeze drying, to ensure the retention of camu camu’s valuable vitamins.
Camu camu is commonly popular and grew to public awareness in the western world due to its very high concentration of vitamin C. Camu camu berry powder is very concentrated and only a very small amount is necessary in recipes to obtain a convenient and tasty way to get your vitamin C.
Popular in South American countries, and in particular Peru, camu camu has a unique fruity citrus flavour and is commonly used for sweet recipes or fruit based recipes.
