Lucuma and Banana Tropical Smoothie
Temptingly smooth and intensely sweet, lucuma powder is a delicious natural sweetener made from the sub tropical lucuma fruit. This vibrant green fruit with a succulent yellow flesh grows on the lucuma tree in the Peruvian Andes, where, thanks to its strong resemblance to the female breast, it is traditionally associated with fertility. Once used as a regular source of sugar by the Inca’s, lucuma is still frequently referred to as ‘Inca’s gold’. It contains an array of nutrients such as fibre, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals and ranks extremely low on the glycaemic index.
A common ingredient in ice cream in South America, lucuma powder is also ideal for stirring directly into shakes, smoothies and protein drinks and is the perfect sugar substitute in an indulgent range of desserts and cakes.
