Maca (Lepidium Meyenii) is a hardy cruciferous crop that thrives at high altitudes, making it especially suitable for organic cultivation. Grown in Peru for thousands of years, maca was once routinely supplied to Inca warriors in order to boost their energy and strength before battle and this revered ‘aphrodisiac of the Andes’ is still used by shamans today to invoke the reincarnation of spirits.
Organic maca powder, made from the root of the vegetable, is an exceptionally nutrient-dense food that is literally teeming with valuable nutrients, including vitamins (vitamins A, B, C, D and E), minerals (such as iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and iodine), fibre, amino acids and essential fatty acids. It is also a particularly flexible kitchen ingredient that can be used to enhance all manner of rawfood recipes and drinks, such as this delicious Maca Caramel.

- 1/2 tbsp. of organic maca powder
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 1 organic apple
Soak your dates in almond milk over night, or until they become “gooey” and delicious.
Take the soaked dates and almond milk and put into a blender. (Add a few more dates if you want a thicker caramel and add a bit more almond milk if you want a more runny caramel). Add to this the maca powder and blend everything together until creamy and smooth.
Put into a serving bowl and serve with sliced apples, or with the favourite fruit of your choice!
