How To Use Almonds

Almonds make a ideal sensible snack when you are feeling a little bit peckish! Or add them to your raw chocolate recipes.

Almonds can also be used to prepare homemade almond milk, which then can be used to add depth and another flavour dimension to your favourite smoothies in substitute of water. Also almond milk is a ideal substitute for any recipes that involve dairy such as cow's milk.

Almond Recipe - How To Make Raw Almond Milk

- 1 cup of organic almonds

- 4 organic dried dates

- 1/2 tsp. of organic vanilla bean powder

- 4 cups of (spring) water

Soak the almonds in water for a minimum of six hours and ideally overnight.

Put the soaked almonds into a blender with 4 cups of water

Add the dates and vanilla powder into the blender.

Blitz everything until smooth. Strain your almond milk using a nut mylk bag and chill before serving.

Almonds Facts

  • Almonds are not nuts, but rather the seeds of a stone fruit.
  • Almonds are traditionally used to prepare almond paste, marzipan, nougat, almond oil and almond milk.
  • Almond milk is an ideal alternative to cow's milk, particularly for those who are lactose intolerant.
  • Almonds are commonly used in nourishing skin care products.
  • Almonds are also used to make almond flour – a gluten-free alternative to wheat flour.
  • Almonds are a stone fruit that grow on the Prunus Dulcis – a deciduous tree that’s native to the Middle East and South Asia. Archaeological records suggest that almonds have been enjoyed since 2000-3000 BC.
  • Today most almonds are grown in the U.S. state of California, but Spain is also a major supplier, particularly to the European market.
