Details

This fragrant powder is prepared from raw organic vanilla beans that have been dried at low temperatures and finely ground. Vanilla powder contains a variety of vitamins and minerals and boasts a fragrant aroma and velvety smooth flavour.

Vanilla powder is a delightful flavouring prepared from the fruit of the vanilla orchid, a climbing orchid that originated in Mexico and is now grown in many (sub) tropical countries. The vanilla orchid contains vanillin (4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde), a naturally aromatic substance that produces the lovely vanilla scent.

Vanilla Bean Powder Facts

  • The name vanilla comes from the Spanish word "vainilla", the diminutive of "Vaina" from the Latin word "vagina".
  • The vanilla flower is pollinated by a rare species of bee that only lives in Mexico. Vanilla orchids in other countries have to be pollinated by hand
  • Vanilla is commonly used to enhance cakes, tarts and pastries
  • Today, many processed products are flavoured with a cheap and inferior artificial flavourer known as vanillin, which unlike vanilla, has absolutely no nutritional value
