Organic spirulina powder is an exceptionally nutrient-dense supplement made from blue-green, freshwater algae that is bursting with valuable nutrients, including protein (organic spirulina powder contains an impressive 60% highly digestible protein), fibre, vitamins (in addition to vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12, organic spirulina powder contains vitamin E, beta-carotene and the so-called ‘forgotten vitamin’, vitamin K), minerals (including calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and zinc), chlorophyll (which gives organic spirulina powder its deep green colour), essential fatty acids (including gamma-linolenic acid, sulfolipids and omega 6 fatty acids) and amino acids. No wonder spirulina has been such a popular source of food for thousands of years and was once treasured by the Aztecs who supplied it to their warriors and athletes for extra strength and endurance!
Organic spirulina powder is also a highly soluble and flexible kitchen ingredient – you can enjoy it in a simple glass of water or stirred into your favourite smoothies, shakes, juices and protein drinks. It can also provide an additional boost to a number of savoury rawfood recipes and snacks, such as our rich and creamy spirulina guacamole recipe below.
