Spirulina is a blue-green freshwater algae that has been used for thousands of years by many different cultures including the ancient Aztecs of Central Mexico. Spirulina powder contains a large variety of beneficial ingredients including fibre, protein, vitamins (such as vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and K), essential minerals (including iron, calcium and magnesium), chlorophyll, trace minerals, essential fatty acids, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and antioxidants. Also available in a tablet form that can be taken with a glass of (spring) water, spirulina powder can be readily stirred into your choice of fresh juices and other liquid dishes, where it not only provides a valuable boost of nutrients, it also lends a delightful deep green hue.
