Organic pitted prunes are essentially dried European plums – often referred to simply as dried plums, organic pitted prunes boast the added convenience of having already had their pits removed and are packed with beneficial nutrients including dietary fibre, vitamins (including vitamins A, C and K), minerals (such as potassium and iron), antioxidants and natural fruit sugars. In addition, organic pitted prunes contain sorbitol, a mild colonic stimulant that makes the superfood a popular home remedy for constipation.
As well as being a particularly healthy and delicious superfood snack between meals, organic pitted prunes are also an ideal ingredient in all of your favourite rawfood recipes, including breakfast cereals, cakes and desserts, such as our lovely raw brownies below.
- 1/2 cup of organic pitted prunes
- 1 cup of organic walnut halves
- Handful of organic cashew nuts
- 1/2 cup of organic dried dates
- 1/2 cup of organic cacao powder
- 1/2 of a cup of oats
- 1 tablespoon of agave nectar (optional)
First soak the walnut halves in water for approximately 1 hour and then drain. Next add these and all of the other ingredients, except for the oats and cacao powder, into your blender and blitz. Blitz these until they become broken up and then add into the blender your oats and cacao powder. Blend everything together until a nice, firm dough-like texture forms (using a few drops of water if necessary).
Now press this mixture into a pre-lined cake tin. Cover and place in your freezer for around an hour or until set and then cut into 10 individual slices before serving. These can be stored in the fridge for a few days, however, in our experience they won’t be around that long!
