Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum) has been enjoyed for more than 5000 years – indeed, it was once prized by the ancient Egyptians, who believed that its leaves were sacred and had a positive influence on health and vitality, and it is even thought to have been used by early Mesopotamian civilizations.
Organic wheatgrass powder is an extremely nutrient-dense supplement made from the juice of freshly squeezed organic wheatgrass, which is then dried at low temperatures. This leaves it utterly brimming with valuable nutrients, including protein (on average organic wheatgrass powder contains around 24% protein, which is more than meat, fish and dairy products), fibre, vitamins (such as vitamins A, B-vitamins, C, E, l and K), minerals (iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium and selenium), amino acids and enzymes (including super oxide dismutase). It also boasts an impressive 70% chlorophyll content - the naturally occurring pigment that gives organic wheatgrass powder its striking green colour.
In fact, adding a small serving of organic wheatgrass powder to your favourite smoothies, shakes and juices will reward you with your recommended 5+ daily servings of vegetables in just one sitting! It’s also a highly versatile kitchen ingredient that can be used to enhance a variety of tempting rawfood recipes, such as our mouth-watering wheatgrass vinaigrette over an Italian salad below.
For the wheatgrass dressing:
- 1 orange
- 3 tbsp. of olive oil
- 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp. of fresh ginger
- 1 tbsp. of organic wheatgrass powder
- 1 tbsp. of raw honey (optional)
For the Italian salad:
